Our Leduc Family Dental Clinic is happy to provide our teen patients with an alternative to braces and wires. Invisalign Teen® is an orthodontic treatment that corrects the position of teeth, and creates a smile your teen can be proud of.
What is Invisalign Teen® Orthodontics?
Invisalign Teen® is a system of clear trays (also known as clear aligners) that are worn for 1-2 weeks at a time before switching to the next set of trays. The trays interact with tooth coloured bumps (also known as attachments) on select teeth to reposition the teeth. The trays need to be worn for a minimum of 22 hours daily and may be removed from eating, drinking, and brushing and flossing,
The overall treatment time is often equivalent to traditional braces and wires, but the risk of white spots on the teeth post-treatment is greatly reduced.
Is Invisalign Teen® Right for Your Teen?
Often parents are concerned about whether or not their teen will wear the trays. Your teen needs to be on board with their orthodontic treatment regardless of the treatment option selected. If your teen is not on board, and has traditional braces and wires, they will not adequately clean their teeth and will end up with white spots and cavities when the treatment is completed. If they are not on board with Invisalign® treatment, the treatment will take longer, but at least they won’t be at a greatly increased risk of cavities.
Invisalign Teen® will not correct all malocclusion, and sometimes traditional braces and wires are still necessary – we do Braces too! – and we will be sure to discuss what option is best for your teen when you see us in Leduc in person.
